A Message From Our President

Seán Staunton

As we bid a fond farewell to 2009 and all the upset and problems it presented, thankfully the prospects for the coming year are looking better and better; The Central bank has announced that Ireland should be out of recession in the second half of 2010 and finally we can see light at the end of the tunnel;

2009 was a particularly bad year for the retail sector in Balbriggan with the almost continous road works adding to a difficult trading year, now, at least, with the roadworks coming to an end we can hope for brighter and more prosperous days;

The Chamber, together with Fingal County Council and the Town Council, wil be garnering the support of all
stakeholders in an effort to rejuvenate the town centre and this will include contributions from all sectors of the
community;

The return of the Post Office to Drogheda Street and the re-opening of the Employment Office in Mill Street
should bring a boost for surrounding businesses;

Industry has not escaped the recession with a large number of redundancies throughout the sector with the newer
factories been hardest hit;

This has been offset with the welcome addition of major industries like Bridgestone and Tech-Crete who, when they are
at full capacity, will add sustainable and well paid jobs to the local community;

News on the Bremore Port, however is less good with revelations that the development plan does not include any details of the development and in fact excludes it altogether; This is an area that needs major clarification;

Balbriggan Chamber is working for all the community, not just the business sector, as we believe that a good community is good for business;

Why not join Balbriggan Chamber and be part of a better future
